How we work

Methodology

How TopInsight researches, sources, verifies, and publishes a review. Built to be auditable — call us out when we fall short.

The internet is full of AI-spun "Top 10" pages with no soul behind them. We are deliberately not that. This page exists so you can audit how we work — and call us out when we fall short.

Source mix: YouTube reviewers and Reddit users, side by side

Every published article draws on a mix of source types. YouTube reviewers have systematic biases — sponsorship pressure, the algorithm rewarding strong takes, recency bias toward whatever they reviewed last week. Reddit users have different biases — negativity skew, echo chambers, the occasional flamewar. By layering them, we get articles that are less captured by either side's narrative.

Our minimum mix per article:

  • 3 independent YouTube reviews from technical creators (not affiliate-spam channels)
  • 2 Reddit threads, top-voted, surfacing real user experience and pain points
  • 1 source of vendor docs or changelog for ground-truth on features and limits
  • Firsthand experience from the author where applicable

When YouTube reviewers say something is great and Reddit users systematically complain about a specific thing, we surface the discrepancy explicitly. That reconciliation is the whole point — and the thing TopInsight is for.

We publish the full source list at the bottom of every article. External links open with rel="noopener nofollow" — we never confer SEO signal to a source just because we cited it.

Hand-written vs. pipeline-synthesised

Some pieces are hand-written by the author. Others are synthesised by our editorial pipeline — an LLM-assisted aggregator that reads transcripts, extracts claims, cross-checks them across sources, and drafts a structured article. Every pipeline-synthesised article is human-edited before publication and labelled as such in the article header. We never auto-publish.

The pipeline never bypasses the human

Our publishing flow has hard circuit breakers built into the deploy pipeline:

  • Maximum 3 pipeline-generated articles published per 24 hours
  • Maximum 15 pipeline-generated articles published per rolling 7 days
  • If our monthly Quality Audit finds 2 of 5 sampled articles need rewriting or removal, the pipeline pauses for 7 days while we fix prompts
  • If LLM self-rating on a draft is below 0.7, the draft is held for manual review, not auto-merged

Monthly Quality Audits

On the last working day of each month, the editor pulls 5 random articles published in the prior month and verifies:

  1. The factual claims still hold up
  2. The recommendation is still one we'd defend
  3. The writing quality matches the median of sites we want to be peers with

Verdicts are keep, rewrite, or unpublish. We log the results. When an audit forces a rewrite or removal, we update the live article and note the change.

Affiliate links don't drive coverage

We participate in affiliate programs (see disclosures) for tools we use and recommend. We do not write reviews because a tool has an affiliate program — we apply to programs after deciding a tool deserves coverage. If a tool we like has no affiliate program, we still cover it. If a tool with a generous program is bad, we say so.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, email editor@topinsight.co. We update the article, date the correction, and note what changed at the top of the piece.
